For Educators
The International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2009 offers teachers and students the exciting opportunity to experience authentic science in real time. As indicators of the planet's health, the Poles act as "canaries in the coal mine," and the science discoveries will provide information that will leave a legacy for years to come. Follow extraordinary science expeditions to some of the most remote, wild, and fascinatingly beautiful places in the world, and bring current research and incredible stories to your students.

The IPY Youth Educators' website provides teachers with a forum for discussions and a place for sharing resources, activities and opportunities for getting involved in the IPY, including postings of how and where to apply for field experiences. Here are some possibilities of interactions this website will provide. You may think of many more... then please share them!

1) make connections with early career polar scientists -- they may be willing to come into your classroom or connect with you and your students via e-mail
2) share and discuss polar science activities you have done with your students. Talk with teachers about what worked well, and what did not... and why
3) post to a bulletin board where polar science conferences can be announced and teachers can set up a date to meet in person and discuss all the great IPY opportunities
4) join a place for teachers where you can have a finger on the pulse of what the youth of the world find interesting, exciting, and complex, about polar ecosystems
5) design your own opportunities -- the IPY Youth website makes it possible!
